Solidarity with Corrala Utopia (Sevilla)
In spain every day 532 evictions take place. because the people aren't able any more to pay the mortgage or the rent. On the other side roundabout 6 millions of flats are vacant - 25% of the whole existing housing units. One year ago 36 families in Sevilla that had been homelesse after being evicted occupied a house that had been empty for more than 3 years, and named it "Corrala de las Vecinas la Utopía". The city council of Sevilla reacted in cutting current and water to the new inhabitants, who are demanding affordable tenancy agreements for the house. Due to public pressure Ibercaja, the bank who owns the house, pretended to negotiate but was not willing to make any conceccions to the occupiers, and demanded at court the immediate eviction.
Now the judge has decided and Ibercaja has an eviction title. The Corrala Utopia is now urgently threatened by eviction.
We declare our solidarity with the occupiers and demand: Immediate Reconnection of Water and Current! Affordable tenency agreements for the inhabitants!
We sign thesolidarity-manifesto from Sevilla
